Pico Bello KWPN (IMP BELGIUM)
PICO BELLO KWPN (IMP BELGIUM)
He is the only stallion in Western Australia to get accepted into the AWHA studbook based only on performance. His progeny are now making their mark in Australia and New Zealand.
Pico Bello was born in Belgium, registered with KWPN, and then exported to New Zealand where he competed successfully with Ike Unsworth of Mount View Sport Horses. He was purchased by David and Linda Dobson in 2008. Consequently he won PART 1 of Sydney Royal, the World Cup in Perth, as well as numerous other prestigious events around Australia before he was purchased by the Young family.
Pascale Young competed Pico Bello at the highest level as a Young Rider, coming 3rd in the Australian Young Rider Championships in 2012.
Pico Bello’s sire, Calvados, is bred from prime French performance stock. The sire of Calvados, Uriel produced more than 100 international show jumping horses. The dam of Calvados, Gold Rose, was a member of the French SJ Team and won many notable Grand Prix events. Pico Bello’s dam, Zellie, is by Joost – a formidable Holsteiner stallion considered to be one of the founders of Dutch show jumping breeding. In combination with Abgar, Joost has produced a large number of international showjumping horses. Zellie is related to the mother (dam) of Marcus Ehning’s Plot Blue, the horse he rode in the winning German team at the World Equestrian Games in 2010.
